Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists (OT’s) at MontroseAccess aim to provide clients and families with ‘tools’ for the job of living a meaningful and satisfying life. OT’s aim to maximise every client’s functional potential in areas such as play, self-care, daily routines, school participation, chores, friendships, leisure and preparation for adult life.
The Occupational Therapist may:
- Ask the client and family about their goals
- Assess the client’s environment at home, school or in the community
- Assess the client’s strengths and difficulties
- Provide strategies, equipment trials and prescriptions
- Provide resources, information, programmes, splints or hands-on therapy
These may address the areas of:
- Fine motor skills such as writing, cutting or using tools
- Eating, drinking, grooming, toileting, sleeping
- Technology
- Transition to school, high school or post-school
- Play, learning and behaviour
- Home modifications
- School and community access
- Vehicles modifications for wheelchairs
- Pre-vocational issues
