Occupational Therapists at MontroseAccess aim to provide clients and families with ‘tools’ for the job of living a meaningful and satisfying life. Occupational Therapists work together with clients to maximise participation in occupations such as:
- Self care eg. eating, grooming, toileting, showering, dressing and sleeping
- Daily routines and time management
- Educational participation, including transitions into new environments
- Hand skills eg. writing, cutting or using tools
- Computer access
- Play and learning
- Social relations including friendships and family relations
- Access to the community; using transport
- Participation in employment or vocational training
- Independent living eg. budgeting, meal preparation
The Occupational Therapist will:
- Discuss goals with client and/or family
- Assess the client's strengths and difficulties
- Assess the client's environments: home, educational facilities and the community
The Occupational Therapist may employ the following methods:
- Provide programmes and hands-on therapy to enhance skill development
- Provide strategies, equipment trials, splints and environmental modifications to improve participation
- Modify tasks to ensure success
- Provide resources and information to clients, families, educational staff and other services eg. advisory teachers, employment services
